OK HOLD ON LET ME TALK ABOUT SOMETHING HERE

So many times when I’m watching the movie, I keep trying to see how the computer guy doesn’t get shot by Rumlow.

When I first saw the movie, I thought the computer guy HAD been shot, and was so relieved when I saw that he hadn’t. But this brought up the question of how Rumlow had missed? I hadn’t seen what happened. He wouldn’t have just missed.

BUT FINALLY. THROUGH THIS GIFSET, I CAN SEE WHAT HAPPENED.

AGENT SHARON CARTER KICKED THE GUYS CHAIR OUT FROM UNDER HIM SO THAT HE FELL OUT OF THE LINE OF GUN FIRE AND THAT IS WHY HE LIVED.

AND THAT IS ONE OF THE REASONS WHY I THINK SHARON CARTER IS AMAZING.

I love this movie SO much because a lot of it actually is about the bravery of the (extra)ordinary SHIELD agents. Typically these characters get completely overlooked in movies, but so many of them laid their lives down for Steve Rogers’ vision - to help him save the world. I just bawled through the second half of the movie over all the innocent SHIELD agents dying. Particularly the pilots who ran out to try and give air support… I’m tearing up just writing this.

Hail Shanon Carter and all those like her.

I paused the movie right after Cap’s speech to SHIELD. I turned to my daughter, who is eleven, and asked her to think about that for a minute. What if one of her idols at circus school walked in and said that half of the school were bad guys? Out to kill everyone? How hard would that be to believe? Imagine looking around at your class, and everyone else is looking around, too. A few people are half-laughing because they think it’s a joke, a prank.

But a couple are not.

Why not? What do they know that you don’t know?

When the teacher says everyone should go sit in the back room until this is sorted out, you see one of your best friends slip away. What for? Is your best friend a bad guy? A good guy? Why is your teacher taking you into the back room, windowless and quiet? Across the gym you see a younger kid starting to cry. Why? What’s happening.

What do you do? Who do you trust? What is happening? How do you decide?

That, I told her, is what is happening in this movie right now. Every agent you see shot and killed in the next scene is being killed by a friend.

I started the movie, and the next scene is Rumlow walking into the control room.

And it’s Agent Sharon Carter who stands up to him. Agent Sharon Fucking Carter. Some tiny little YOUNG woman who says no to evil, who protects that brave, brave, fucking heroic tech.

I let the rest of the movie run without lecturing my kid any more. But I hope she remembers.

I hope that she remembers that when it’s time for the immpossibly hard decisions, young women struggle, fight, and win.

Hey there, anon! Wow, I love “Sliders” too so thanks for this! I’m not sure if I should just comment on this or actually answer it. If I was on “Sliders” I would definitely be a “Wade”, though (who was my favorite).

So I was watching Outlander videos until I stumbled upon one that showed the ghost that Frank saw in the beginning of the show and then I was like SHIT THAT IS JAMIE ISN’T IT? and sure enough— the author confirmed it and said all will be explained in the last book so now I’ve been sitting here for…

academia-nut:

A WARNING TO YOU

DO NOT WATCH OUTLANDER IF YOU DON’T WANT TO SUDDENLY START FINDING MEN IN KILTS REALLY ATTRACTIVE.

DON’T DO IT.

maryhaines:

“I blocked it out until the last moment where all of a sudden it hit me, that this person that I was standing in front of as I know him and have known him for such a long time, that this aspect of our relationship was coming to a close. We embraced and I just burst into tears. We held our embrace for a really long time and I think it was just flooding over us, the importance of this agreement that we’ve had to be in each other’s lives in a very powerful way.”

Gillian Anderson

“I think it was written that Scully gives Mulder a kiss on the forehead. Kim Manners was there [directing], and I was so confused at that point that I didn’t trust my feelings about it because I had so many personal feelings. It was eight years of my life. I didn’t know what would be an appropriate ending. I didn’t know. And when Kim and I read it as we were about to shoot it, he said, ‘We’ve done that 100 times, the whole hand holding and the kiss on the forehead. Let’s do a real kiss.’ I was like, ‘Yeah, that feels right.’”

David Duchovny

“The last shot in the picture was Gillian handing David the baby in her bedroom. David leaned over and gave her a kiss, and the camera then pulled back out of the doorway and just kept going down the hall. We got the shot, and we cut it and printed it; the nurse came and took the baby away. And David put his arms around Gillian, and she put her arms around him, and they stood there for about ten minutes, and never said a word to each other. The tears were just rolling down their faces, and the whole crew stood there and watched this in silence. It was truly one of the most emotional experiences I’ve ever witnessed in my life.”

"I sent you to Sylmar to wipe out that trash, but I didn’t let you finish."

What anyone viciously defending Paige’s actions seem to forget she said to Sid besides the false name he was hospitalized under.  (via ampersandjunkie)

I’ve thought about this one a lot and gone back and forth on it. I actually don’t think that was her intention at the time, but her anger speaking in that particular scene. I don’t think she actually wanted Mike done for when shutting down the compound.

And trust me when I say that I’m not defending her actions, I just think the meaning/motivation behind that line is not what it appears to be on the surface.

This is what Paige stopped Sid from finishing:

She knew what she was doing. The writers have confirmed that Paige’s intentions in going to Sid were for Mike to die, because that was the only way to balance the scales. This isn’t really a disputable thing anymore.

She was acting from a place of severe trauma, and she clearly regrets what she did as soon as she does it, but that doesn’t change the fact that she intended for Mike to die in that moment.

(via mikearkins)

Sadly, I have to agree with this. I just rewatched the scene in the next episode, when Mike and Paige are talking in her room (when she’s trying to make her musical ballerina “broken” again). This is their dialogue, verbatim:

Paige: What’s up?

Mike: I wanted to say thank you.

Paige: For what?

Mike: For saving my life, with Sid.

Paige: Well, you would have done the same for me.

Mike: He would’ve killed me.

Paige: Well, we used to have something special.

Mike: Right.

So while it’s true her judgment was heavily influenced by her grief and trauma, and she was regretful after the fact, this shows that it WAS confirmed knowledge to her that Sid wanted to kill Mike in Sylmar, and in general.
